A few things worth knowing
Is this an exact measurement?
No — it's a guide, based on typical UK self-storage sizing bands (10, 25, 35, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 and 200+ sq ft). Real units vary slightly by operator, and how neatly you pack changes what fits. Always confirm exact unit dimensions and current availability with your chosen operator before booking.
Should I round up or down?
Round up. Storage units are floor-to-ceiling but you still need room to walk in and reach things at the back — this calculator already adds a buffer for that. A slightly bigger unit that you can actually access beats a cheaper one you have to unpack the whole thing to get to.
What if I'm storing business stock?
Use the "Business stock" item on the By items tab and add a run for each shelving unit or pallet stack you're storing — business storage tends to be lumpier than household contents, so it's worth erring generous.
Does Sturdy Ai run storage units?
No — Sturdy Ai builds the AI voice agent and back-office system that storage operators use to answer calls, quote units and take bookings (Stora-connected today, other platforms on request). This calculator is a free tool for anyone sizing up a storage unit; for pricing and booking, contact the storage operator you're considering.
